St. Rufus - companion of Zosimus

Payments were made to Tomassini from July 1702 to February 1703

Sculptor - Matteo Tomassini
He was paid 80 scudi for the statue, which is his only known work.

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The saint wears a tunic, a part of which he holds in his left hand.  The right hand holds a palm of martyrdom that leans against his arm.

Saints Rufus and Zosimus lived in Antioch and were martyrs under the persecutions of emperor Trajan. They were companions of St Ignatius of Antioch during his journey as a prisoner to Rome where they all were martryed.
