St. Marcian
Died - c. late third century

Feastday - 5 June

Statue created - 1667-1668
It is part of the group of 16 sculpted between May 1667 and Luly 1668.

Sculptor - Lazzaro Morelli
The formal treatment of the statue indicates Morelli as the author.

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The beard and hair find a clear response in St Gaetano (122) and St Joseph (131)

The iconography of the statue and placement between martyrs who died in the time of Diocletian, allow identification of St Marcian, who is remembered along with Nicander and Apollonius in the Roman Martyrology. They were allegedly severely tortured and locked into a walled courtyard were they died of exposure.
