St. Theobald of Provins
Born - 1033
Died - 30 June 1066

Feastday - 30 June
Canonized - 1073 by Pope Alexander II

Statue created - c.1662-1667
The statue is part of the group of 24 that were installed between September 1662 and March 1667.

Sculptor - unknown
This figure, though clever, is not identifiable with any of the artists working on statues in this area.

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The saint is clothed in only a mantle that wraps around his shoulders and falls to the left.  He is represented as looking up to heaven with the left raised. The naked upper body and the palm, as he was not a martyr, seems to be the same iconography as that of St. Jerome.

St. Theobald was a hermit born of French nobility. He became the leader of a group of hermits near Vicenza.
