St. Philip Neri
Born - 21 July 1515
Died - 25 May 1595 in Rome

Feastday - 26 May
Canonized - 12 March 1622 by Pope Gregory XV

Statue created - c.1671
The statue is part of a group of 16 that were installed between August 1670 and March 1673.

Sculptor - Lazzaro Morelli
The statue is cited as a work of Morelli in the final payments of April and May 1671. The work was performed together with that of St Cajetan (122)

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The iconography is taken from previous images of the saint given by the artists Reni and Algardi. This expression of deep devotion and abandonment to the will of God was an essential component of the late Counter Revormation.

St Philip Neri, a Florentine, was known as the Apostle of Rome, and founded the Congregation of the Oratory.  His body is in the Chiesa Nuova in Rome.
