St. Bonaventure - Bishop

Canonized - 1482 by Pope Sixtus IV

Statue created - c.1702-1703
Campi received the commission in June 1702 and delivered the statue in February 1703.

Sculptor - Pietro Paolo Campi
He received 80 scudi for the work.

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The saint is show with the insignia of episcopal authority as he was cardinal and bishop. He has a short beard that is divided into two under the chin.  With his left hand he holds a closed book, symbol of the more than 60 works written by him. On the plinth rests his cardinal's hat.

Bonaventure was an Italian medieval scholastic theologian and philosopher. He was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1588 by Pope Sixtus V.
